Expanding horizons in qualitative space: understanding and integrating online and offline techniques
June 2010 - date TBA
A seismic shift is occurring in the possibilities for generating qualitative information using online and digital tools. Qualitative research is no longer just face to face groups, depths and workshops; it includes harvesting user generated comment from naturally occurring groups, netnography, online real time and timefree interviewing and managing communities of various sizes to participate in ongoing research conversations.
This course will
- Review and demonstrate some of the most common online tools and methods (bring your laptop and try them for yourself)
- Show you how to avoid basic errors in migrating offline thinking and methods to online
- Give you a point of view about the benefits and drawbacks, and the ability to have informed and persuasive discussions with your clients about using hybrid methodologies.
- Show you where to go for further information and how to experiment safely in the new digital qualitative space.
This course is designed to help researchers and planners use the best combinations of new and established techniques.
