Communication Skills

Background

Communication skills are central to good relationships (both internally with colleagues and externally with clients, suppliers etc). Yet they are rarely the subject of conscious development. Often it is the communication rather than the work that causes relationships to break down, and this course addresses the causes and the solutions to such issues.

Purpose and Aims

The purpose of this workshop is to improve delegates' communication skills by building awareness of how people interact, and demonstrating how relationships can be radically improved. The programme gives delegates an understanding of what people really want from us, how we are perceived and how we can change the dynamics of a relationship. The aim is to help delegates manage all their working relationships more effectively.

For

Anyone who has to influence and build effective working relationships with others, as well as anyone who has responsibility for managing others.

Format

Two-day workshop comprising a series of short lectures, tutorials and exercises, plus syndicate work to deepen understanding of the difference between average communication and great communication.

Benefits

From this workshop delegates will:

  • Develop an understanding of why misunderstandings happen, and why they can rapidly escalate.
  • Learn how to build rapport, even with people they don't like.
  • Gain insight into what people really want, and how to gain their confidence.
  • Understand how the other person sees the reality of the situation, by asking the right questions.
  • Develop listening skills.
  • Explore how to build agreements that satisfy both parties.
